Part of the VISIONARY LANDSCAPES shorts programme, TREES DOWN HERE is the latest documentary from director and cinematographer Ben Rivers.
Shot on 16mm and co-produced by 6a Architects and MUBI, this documentary employs a classic experimentalist style, and delves into the University of Cambridge archives, dating back to the construction of Churchill College.
TREES DOWN HERE works to explore the delicate interactions between architecture, nature and landscape, by playfully contrasting images of concrete brutalist buildings, with that of majestic birds and swaying trees.
In doing so, Rivers creates a dichotomy through which he poses a question to the audience: To what extent should human creation and innovation, pose a threat to the protection and preservation of the nature around it?
