Reel Voices & TAKE ONE

Reel Voices, launched in 2024, is a mentoring programme for aspiring film journalists in Cambridgeshire, run by Cambridge Film Festival and Anglia Ruskin University. Participants will have the chance to work with a mentor who will guide them in writing three pieces of film journalism. Since 2025, TAKE ONE have also collaborated on the scheme to provide editorial guidance and publishing at least one article per participant on TAKEONECinema.net.

Successful applicants gain experience as accredited press delegates at the Cambridge Film Festival and participate in many exciting opportunities during the festival. They will also participate in two pre-festival workshops and a post-festival career development session, providing valuable insights into film criticism and journalism.

Participants from previous years of the scheme have gone on to be regular contributors to TAKE ONE and other publications, writing reviews and features, and conducting interviews with filmmakers.

A full archive of all articles published with TAKE ONE as part of the scheme can be found here, alongside additional pieces published by the Cambridge Film Festival website, and more information about the scheme.
